WPI will host Women Authors in New England from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9, featuring Anita Shreve, author of such national bestsellers as "The Pilot’s Wife," "The Weight of Water," and "Body Surfing." This fund-raiser, to be held in the Campus Center Odeum, will benefit Daybreak, a women’s shelter operated by the YWCA of Worcester, and will celebrate women authors while partnering with other Worcester colleges and universities to raise awareness of Daybreak’s important services.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) will host Women Authors in New England, featuring Anita Shreve, author of such national bestsellers as The Pilot's Wife, The Weight of Water, and Body Surfing. This fund-raiser will benefit Daybreak, a women's shelter operated by the YWCA of Worcester, and will celebrate women authors while partnering with other Worcester colleges and universities to raise awareness of Daybreak's important services.

"This event not only supports a good cause, domestic violence prevention, but it is a chance to spend an evening with several renowned female authors including best-selling author Anita Shreve," says Shelley Nicholson, director of WPI's Women's Programs and a member of the Daybreak Standing Committee, which is organizing the Women Authors event. "This is a must-attend and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for any aspiring writer, book club devotee, or general reader."

Other writers to be featured include Kris Holloway, author of the acclaimed Monique and the Mango Rains; Kristin Waters, associate professor of philosophy at Worcester State College, and Carol B. Conaway, editors of Black Women's Intellectual Traditions: Speaking Their Minds; Belen Atienza, poet and assistant professor of Spanish at Clark University in Worcester; Yvonne Woon, author of Siblings; and Barbara Drapos, author of Shutters.
