This event celebrated WPI's rich partnerships and deep engagements with organizations based in and doing work in sub-Saharan Africa. The exciting work WPI and its partners are carrying out in Africa under the auspices of Science and Technology for Development was shared.

LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN

Sustainability and the environment are global grand challenge themes that this event focused on. Dr. Carlos Nobre, who was a co-author on the Fourth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which received the 2007 Nobel Prize for Peace, and a member of the National Academy of Sciences, delivered the plenary address.

OCEANIA

The Oceania event began with two keynote speakers: an interview with Mele Wendt, MNZM from Wellington New Zealand and a talk from Professor Holger Droessler, Assistant Professor of History at WPI. Panels reviewing WPI's existing project centers in the region and regional topics including climate change, nature and society, and indigeneity followed.

This program focused on faculty research and student projects, WPI’s institutional partners in Asia, and what future collaborations in the region could look like. Meng Bo, Associate Dean of the Office of International Affairs at Tsinghua University, delivered the keynote address.
