ANDREW BAUER – SWIMMING AND DIVING

Andrew Bauer of the swimming and diving team has been tabbed as the WPI Male Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Feb. 21.  Bauer claimed a pair of individual titles en route to being named Swimmer of the Year at this weekend’s NEWMAC championships. The Cumberland, R.I., junior repeated as the 200 freestyle champion on Saturday and handed in a meet and program record of 1:38.92 and then struck gold Sunday in the 100 freestyle in a time of 45.41. Bauer was also part of a pair of winning relays – the 200 freestyle (1:24.51) and 200 medley (1:38.92), and finished second, earning All-NEWMAC status in the 50 freestyle (20.91).

 

JENNY DAY – SWIMMING AND DIVING

Jenny Day from the swimming and diving team has been honored as the WPI Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Feb. 21. Day made program history as the first WPI woman to win a NEWMAC Swimming Championship by claiming the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:08.44.  Just a little over an hour earlier, the Chelmsford, Mass., sophomore had set the school record in both the 1,000 and 1,650 freestyles, while placing fourth in the mile (17:23.42). Day had a tremendous all-around meet, placing third in the 500 free in a time of 5:04.19, and playing a large role in multiple relay events for the Engineers.
