Hold Requests for Charged Items
WPI library users can place holds on items that are charged out to other users. Requests for holds can still be made in person at the Information Desk, but users may find it more convenient to place hold requests themselves. Library users also may cancel hold requests if an item is no longer needed.
Connect to the Library Catalog Now (search for item you'd like to hold, then click request)
To put a hold on a charged item:
- Search the Library Catalog and display the information page for the item that you want to request.
- Click on Request in the toolbar at the top of the page.
- On the Requests login page, click on the button labeled "WPI FACULTY, STUDENTS, AND STAFF ONLY!" Then enter your WPI Network username and password and click Log In on the "Pubcookie" page. (Please note: Users without a WPI login should enter their library barcode number and last name and click OK on the Request login page).
- Click on the dropdown arrow in the menu to see the requests available to you. If, instead of the menu, you see a message that says there are no requests available, there may be a reason why.
- Select Hold from the menu, and click OK.
- Type any comments in the Comments box.
- Click on Submit Request at the bottom of the page.
- An e-mail notice will be sent to you when the requested item is available.
- Click on the Search button to begin a new search.
- When you are finished requesting items, click on Logout in the toolbar or on Exit if you wish to end your library catalog session.
- For added security, you should always exit completely from your Web browser, especially if you are using a computer in a public location like the library or a computer lab.

Why Hold Requests Might Not Work:
- Holds cannot be placed if items are not charged out. If the Status line on the Holdings Information page says, Status: Not Charged, then the item cannot be held. It should be on the shelf.
- Holds are not available if you are blocked due to accumulated fines and fees. To remove the block, go to the Information Desk and satisfy any outstanding obligations.
- Holds are not available to all library users. Check with the Information Desk if you have a question about hold requests.
