Library 2006-2007 Construction
Library Construction on the Main Level: 2006-2007
January-March 2007 Update
Pardon our dust while we continue to update the main entrance level (2nd floor) of the library.
| Time Frame | Activity |
|---|---|
| February 2007 | Installation of three new tables and six chairs in South side area. |
| February/March 2007 | Five “pods” (circular occasional tables with wired network access) installed. |
| March 2007 | New counter height table installed for two “quick-stop” search stations. |
Our reorganization has moved study areas, the Movie Lab, and staff work spaces as well as created three new collaborative meeting spaces. (Tech Suites 3, 4, and 7)
Our reorganization has moved Bestsellers, the PDF scanner, and photocopiers to new locations. Check the library floor maps for the latest configuration. There are now vending machines on the main entrance level, towards the back, south side.
Improvements
The library has improved its service areas by bringing Circulation and Reference into one area of the main floor to achieve one consolidated service point. Locating service points and staff in the same area improves communications and workflows; improves sightlines; provides varied computing options for interactions and for groups; opens up the floor visually; and open up two spaces for additional Tech Suites. Improvements provide space for staff to work with groups as well as individuals, and allow for more private interactions, in addition to providing staff with more secure, private work space. Library users can find all Public Services staff and services in one convenient area. Staff will have improved ability to see those who may be looking for help, even when working with others away from the service desks.
Improved space for users:
new space for noisy study; opened views to windows; multiple computing configurations
Office space for staff:
better space for meetings with librarians at the Reference Desk and away from it; quiet, secure space for staff to work
Better visibility:
of staff to staff, service points to users, office space to service, and entrance accessibility points; for safety concerns and security
Ease of use:
easily identified service points and equipment; improved lines of sight across the libraryChanges
- Movie Lab has moved to the 3rd floor study room
- Microfilm/fiche collections moved to the ground floor with other periodical collections
- Media equipment (DVD and video players) moved to a room adjacent to the PC Room on level one
- Reference/Interlibrary Loan staff and Reference Desk moved to opposite side of main level
- Reference collection refined and relocated to opposite side of main level; public access computers moved to opposite side of main level
- Bestsellers and study tables moved to former Reference area
- Two new Tech Suites (collaborative group technology rooms) are installed in former Reference area spaces, and one off PC lab on first floor
