CHTE welcomes Thomas Wingens of Wingens Consultants to CHTE

Thomas Wingens, founder and president of Wingens Consultants and an internationally recognized expert in the thermal processing and metallurgy industry, has been named an advisor to the Center for Heatr Treating Excellence at WPI.

 

Wingens Consultants, established in 2011 specializes in advanced heat treatment processes, metallurgical problem-solving, and furnace technology development. Wingens’ practical experience as a metallurgist and process developer is complemented by his deep technical understanding of thermal systems, materials behavior, and equipment design, making him a singularly important and trusted advisor for complex industrial heat treatment challenges. His contributions to the industry have included developing new heat treatment methodologies, solving intricate metallurgical challenges, and integrating cutting-edge technologies into industrial processes. As Industrial Advisor to CHTE, Thomas will provide CHTE with strategic guidance in business development and assist with CHTE’s project research portfolio.

The CHTE is a unique industry-university consortium at WPI serving the thermal processing industry by providing the needed knowledge base and confidential problem-solving solutions. Most importantly, it educated future leaders in the thermal processing industry.

 

Tom Bell Young Author Award at the IFHTSE Congress 2024

 

PhD student Ellen Troyanosky received the Tom Bell Young Author Award at the IFHTSE Congress in Cleveland in October 2024. The award was given for the paper “Sub-Zero Treatment of 17-4PH Stainless Steel Manufactured by Laser Powder Bed Fusion” Congratulations Ellen!

“The Tom Bell Young Author Award is given for the best paper from a young author presented at the IFHTSE Congress. It consists in the invitation for free participation at the next IFHTSE Congress. The award covers economy class transport, accommodation, and participation fee. The award is named in honor of the late Prof. Tom Bell of the University of Birmingham, twice IFHTSE President, IFHTSE Fellow and IFHTSE Medalist.”
